As a Realtor I have been selling homes in Highland Park for the last eight years and recently there have been many articles in the Los Angeles Times, Curbed LA, and The Eastsider about how this is the next up and coming neighborhood. During the real estate boom buyers felt lucky if they won the house for a half a million, homeowners took out home equity lines of credit and then the crash came in 2007. Now these homes are being sold as foreclosures and short sales, with big pocket investors buying them up for a song. Better Shelter was one of the first flippers who took a chance to tastefully remodel these inexpensive run down character homes to sell to a targeted market. The look inside is an open floor plan with dark wood floors, white walls, nicely decorated with mid-century furniture, vintage finds from flea markets and quirky paintings. Atwater Village is an older, quaint, architecturally eclectic neighborhood filled with old timers, young families and investors flipping homes. Either my clients like Atwater Village or they don’t, there never seems to be an in between. I personally like Atwater. Hollydale Drive is a one of those tasteful, well done flipped homes priced to sell. It won’t be on the market long.
